RECHARGE

I love my church! I have said that several times. This is no exception either. Last weeks the body where I worship had an event for women. Recharge Women't Night of Worship, Encouragement and Connecting. It was wonderful. Wonderful love songs to our Savior. A beautiful story of God's faithfulness in the life a member, and a funny southern speaker who made me laugh and cry!

Mary Clayton Wood is one of the funniest ladies I have ever heard speak, she is southern to her core!  She first pointed out identifies among all women in every stage of life 1. We are exhausted, 2 We are always out of time, 3 We compare ourselves to others (the kiss of death to contentment) 4. We never finish our 'To do' list 5. We are held captive by technology. Which is why we all needed this night to recharge. Many women had to preform a minor miracle to make it out the door! I personally had to arrange a sitter since my hubs was working.

The main focus of her talk was on the example Sarah is to us women for women. Sarah is an Old Testament figures that is mentioned many time in the New Testement. Two places are 1 Peter 3:6 and Hebrews 11:8-11. Mary Clayton had 3 focus points about Sarah
1. A model of submission despite  manipulation and need for control
2. A portrait of redemption, despite her failures
3. A woman of faith, despite laughing at God's promises.

I loved this because in Hebrews it praises the faith of Abraham and Sarah, they are rewarded for their faithfulness. But when you go back to Genesis chapters 11-21 you see where they  failed and faltered again and again Proverbs 24:16a For an upright man, after falling seven times will get up again.
BUT
Even when they disobeyed , took matters into their own hands, {Sarah gave her maid for Abraham to sleep with to conceive a child! Who does that!} the Lord still blessed them, from them came the Savior. Everything was redeemed!

There is NO mistake that we can make that will separate us from the love of God

I love that truth. As mom I think about things that my child could do, mistakes they might make. However I can think of nothing that would keep me from loving them. The way I feel is how God feels at the HIGHEST level!

Thanks be to God who loved me!

Joy in the midst of trials

I am going through some trials,
too some people it may not seem like much but for me they are.
I haven't had a good attitude at all the last 6 months.
It has affect my mood, motivation, and mindset.
I have grumbled, complained, fought and argued,
out loud and in my head.
This has been made me me very weary, angry and depressed
I can't keep up this way.
The solution:
take it to my Father, depend on Him for strength, joy, and peace.

Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is an everlasting God,
 the creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength;
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
BUT
they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

It is so wonderful that the LORD meets you where you are.
This verse shows me what I need to do.
Wait on the LORD
Yes like most things we need to do easier said than done. Which is why we have the Holy Spirit who it there to help us in our weaknesses.

Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
For we do not know what to pray for as we ought,
but the Spirt himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

2 Corinthians 12:9a
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness"
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weakness,
so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

I can assure you haven't been boasting in my weakness
I have been complaining in my weakness.
So in writing all this my goals are of a singular thought
Wait on the LORD
Seeking the Spirit intercession during prayer
Relying on His grace to be sufficient.

{Part 2} At Home with Mary and Martha

{Part 2} At Home with Mary and Martha-Quiet Time

Be sure to read {part 1} if you missed to learn about BALANCE in our lives

As a ‘Martha’ I struggle with consistent quiet time, especially when I am not in a Bible study. I am not a diligent lover of the work because I am focused way too heavily on my ‘to do’ list.

I know as a follower of Christ to know him, know his commands and obey them I must be in God’s word. I need to have a consistent quiet time(s) in my day.
Quiet Time Tips
First lets address why we are to have quiet time. Holly did a great job with this, here are the reasons she gave.
We have quiet time:
  • to enjoy fellowship with God and get to know Him better {Philippians 3:8-10;                 Matthew 22:37}
  • to delight God {Proverbs 15:8b}
  • to discover principles to direct our lives {Psalm 119:105}
  • to develop perspective on life from God's point of view {Romans 12:2}

Quiet time is for us.

I can think of countless time when I have not spent time in the word and my day is just a wreck my attitude is bad which sent the mood for my whole day.

However, I can know that the day is going to be long, and even hard but if I have started my day with the Lord in reading His word and in prayer I have peace. It’s not as if all the things I have to disappear or become easy, because that isn’t the case.

What happens is I have allowed God to be most important in my day and let him command. Jessica is out of the way, and God is leading and providing me with the wisdom and strength I asked at the beginning of my day.

Which takes us to the next part, prayer

Prayer isn’t just spouting off all the things you need and want, but allowing time to really LISTEN.

Our church follows the ACTS model

A=Adoration:
Spend time praising the Lord by praying Psalms back to Him {Psalm 28:7; 100:4} I love listing the attributes of God and praising Him through song as well
C=Confession:
Ask God to search your heart {Psalm 139:23,24} Confess any sin the Holy Spirit brings to your attention {Psalm 66:18; 1 John1:9}
T=Thanksgiving:
Thank God for ALL that He’s done and is doing in your life and the lives of others. This is a great time to write it all down. {my small group leader is challenging us to write 1000 little gifts as done in Ann Voskamps book
S=Supplication:
Pray for specific things each day, personal concerns, family, events, friends, missionaries, etc. These can also be written down and dated so that you can go back and witness God’s faithfulness through prayer

One of my favorite things Holly talked about was the Quiet Time Tools. First off you need to decide where you plan on having your quiet time, is it going to be in one spot, or will it travel. In either instance a pretty basket, bag or box will work nicely as a way to contain the contents of your
Quiet Time Tools
 Devotional- these can be books or an app on your smartphone/tablet. I am currently using YouVersion's Devotional plans. I like it because I can set a reminder to go off 5 minutes after I wake. So that I can be sure to spend time in the word before I greet my family.
Books- What's It Like to Be Married to Me?: And Other Dangerous Questions Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free The Power of a Praying Wife

Writing tools- Highlighters/ Colored pens- I like to mark up my devotional and books with highlighters and my bible with colored pens
Notecard/Blank greeting cards-To send notes of encouragement to those I am praying for, who doesn't like getting REAL mail!
Journal/Notebook- Great for notes, writing out prayers, list things that we are thankful for etc.

Lastly decide where you want these items to stay. I have them in basket with a handle so that I can keep them all together and it is transportable. I am a reader by nature and I have a stack of books 6 high that I  am am 'reading' from my goals which are ever changing so I personally don't keep the books in this basket, but by my bed.

I know that I am to spend time in the word and in prayer, my very Martha self fights giving this adequate time. I see my list of things that need to be done so I short change my quiet time to the bare minium. But that isn't how you get to know someone. You spend as much time as possible. And I have more time, I am just not choosing to give it to the Lord. I can't tell you what that time allotment looks like in your life, but I know for me it can and will be more.

Are you balancing time with our Father with keeping your home well? If you have other suggestions I'd love to hear them?

Part 3 will be out shortly, don't forget to read {Part 1} if you missed it.

{Part 1} At home with Mary and Martha

The key to unlocking the mystery of Mary and Martha is Balance

If you are a christian woman the topic of Mary vs Martha comes up often. Friday a very wise women from our church spoke to a room full of moms of preschoolers about this very topic.

Luke 10:38-42
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a villiage. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thins is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

For me at my core I am a Martha. I'm all about getting things done, efficiency and perfection. Now even this is at my core you could come to my home and think otherwise. But it is who I am. It can be hard to combat that when you have passages like Proverbs 31 where we see all the things that she does!

An excellent wife who can find ?
She is far more precious than jewels
The heart of her husband trust in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm
all the days of her life.
She seeks wool and flax
and works with willing hands
She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and a portion for her (house)maidens
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night
She puts her hands to the distaff
and her hands hold the spindle.
She opens her hands to the poor
and she is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land
She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing.

I don't know about you but I am exhausted just reading all that she does. Its hard not to think that is all are jobs as wives and mothers entail. But there is more to it.
Now to clarify as Holly said, there are tasks that have to be done. Unless you are keep a secret from the rest of us wives and mothers we all have 'to do' list.
cleaning
cooking
shopping
teaching
training
These things don't do themselves but our hearts attitude about it speaks volumes

All of these things the Mary heart and the Martha hands take BALANCE
Holly spells it out here:

B- Be simple;
There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens Ecclesiastes 3:1
As a mom of a preschooler I have to remember that every idea I come across on google or pinterest

A- Allow for margin;
If you know that it take 15 min to get your family from the door to the car and 15 minutes to get to where you need to go but only allow yourself exactly 30 minutes you are going to be late. Because we all know that everyone needs to go to the bathroom at the last second or someone can't find their shoe. But if you allow yourself 45 minutes you will more than likely be on time if not early.

L- Line up with Christ's priorities;
but seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 22:39

A- Ask the Lord for wisdom in your personal decisions about time and priorities. Satan wants you to believe you can do this without God! If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to al without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

N-Never put project before people:
and the second are like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself' Matthew 22:39.  Tasks should NEVER be more important than my husbands, my boys, my family or my friends

C- Commitments:
What is important vs extra? Only you and your husband can make this decision. Don't base what you do on what your friend, sister or mother is doing!

E- Excellence DOES NOT EQUAL perfection. Now repeat that 10 times throughout your day!

{Part 2} is ready for reading!

These thought are my takeaways and thought about the talk that was given by Holly Barnett on May 4, 2012
