3 ways to be 'ready' with toddlers

I like to be early to places but with two boys under 3 that can be a chanllenge. I want to share with you what I do to make getting ready to go easier

1. It starts with you!
Go to bed at a decent hour and wake up before your kids. If your first thought is yeah right! I can understand the sentiment. {Keep in mind I am not talking to moms of babies who wake during the night  but to those whose kids sleep the same consistent 10-12 hours at night}.  Here is what I am working towards. My boys wake up at 7:00 am. I want an hour before they wake. So in order to get 8 hours of sleep I have to be in bed by 10:00 pm at the latest, preferably 9:30 so that I have time to fall asleep.  That gives me from 6:00 am- 7:00 am to myself for various things like:
  • Quiet time and journaling
  • Getting dressed
  • Starting breakfast
2. Keep their clothes simple
I am BIG on clothes matching and I have boys so thats easy to do, simple and matching. Every shirt they have goes with khaki, green khaki, navy or brown bottoms. I don't buy outfits with 'set' top and bottoms  so I don't have to worry about them always being clean at the same time. By keeping their clothes simple and small in number I eliminate to many options and things not matching. Which means getting dressed takes minutes not matter if it me or my husband dressing them.

Now not having daughter I don't know how you make this simple. If you have tips in that area please leave a comment!

3 Keep the bag packed
For us 3 diapers each, wipes, applesauce and cereal bars will cover just about anywhere we want to go. I try to alway restock the bag when we get home from an outing so that's alway ready to go and I don't have to think about it!

I find when I do these things it starts my day well and I don't feel frazzled when I friend wants to do something last minute because I am ready!

  1. Great tips!! I can't wait until my baby boy starts sleeping through the night so I can get up before both kiddos. At least I'm up before one of them! I also try to keep the diaper bag organized and stocked! :) I found you through Twitter! Thanks for following me @closefamilies. :)
