DIY- Felt PomPoms

Two weeks ago I threw a baby shower for a dear friend who is 

expecting twin girls in October. My mother-in-law was a big help.

I wanted some elegant decorations so I made these pompoms 

Each pompom used about 1 1/2 yards of felt

The circles I cut out were about 2 1/2" in diameter.

I cut the felt in strips, 3" wide and the length of the felt 

(keep it folded in half)

That way when you cut out a circle you have two. 

I used straight pins to pin each circle to a 

4" styrofoam ball 

{the link leads you to buy pk of 36 for $96, they don't cost that much individually!}

I forgot to take pictures of the actual process. 

I just push the pin in the middle of the felt circle right into the styrofoam ball. 

Then repeat every 1/2"

I had so much fun making the decorations.

So since see the revolution of Pinterest I have been pinning away so many amazing things. But sadly my well intentions of doing so many of the great DIY/Crafts have not happened. But I do want to document my awesome mom momnent. I made the cutest treats for my 2 years olds class at MOPS. The original ideas looks like this.

So this is my insperation and what I was aiming for. However I wasn't able to find pastery bags that didn't have a HUGE Wilson  medallion in purple on the front of it. So I imperovised and made it this way 

They came out better than I imagined. So I know inquiring minds what to know what I did

Simply fill the bags with about 1/2- 3/4 c of bunnies

tie a bow with the ribbon of your choice

Slap a foam sticker on the top

I'm back!

Hello everyone,
Man not having home internet stinks! I was hoping to have it by now but to no avail. I'm at my parents basically letting you know that I haven't left blogland though I am SERIOUSLY behind. When I started my blog I thought I would be much farther along in blogging than I am now. Oh well God has a plan. I have been working on some fun projects though.

My current obsession is painting furniture with the $5 oops paint that I have been finding at Lowes. The best part is the colors have been spot on for what I want.  I am in the middle of working on a desk that belonged to my husbands uncle. I love it because it is REAL wood, and free the project is going to cost me around $20 between  new knobs, paint, sandpaper and sealer! What a deal. I will reveal the before and after as soon as I am done. Which will hopefully be this weekend.

In other news my family is prayerfully considering buying a home instead of renting. I am excited about the possibility of having our own space that I can paint, decorate and not worry about repainting. I am looking forward to not having to move every few years. But nervous about buying a money pit, having that much debt, and being totally responsible for the property.

I know that one day I will have to grow up and own a home(simply because renting a bigger house would send us to the poor house) but I am not sure I am ready. I am however very thankful for the things I do have and am constantly reminding myself the be content were I am and not dwell only in the future. My thankful list

My parents and in-laws
My husbands jobs that provide for all our necessities and some extras
Last but not least my God in whom I find my strength and comfort!

About to Start on my Desk!

So am about to start my furniture painting. I bought some Ivy Leaf spray paint by Krylon and Krylons white primer. Wal-mart didn't have the Kilz that Brooke from All things thrifty recommends and since trying to get out of the apartment with a 8 month old and being 5 1/2 month pregnant is a chore hopefully I won't regret my choice.

Since I wasn't sure how that color would look out of the can and on something I experimented with a picture frame. Just not in the mood to redo a WHOLE desk if I like the color. The best part about this upcoming project is that it will probably cost me only $12-$15!

• Spray paint~ I'm estimating 3 can @ $2.97/ea = $9 basically
  
• Primer ~ 1 can $2.97
• Sealer for the top not even half a can ~ less than $1.50!
• Maybe if I feel ambitious I will line the drawers with paper ~$1-2
• Desk~ FREE!!! MIL gave it to me, because she didn't have a use for it but didn't want to throw it away. SCORE!
  

Now to get started... during the next nap time I plan to get going!

Let's Paint some furniture!

So I have been blog surfing and love what I found All things thrifty... talk about inspiration! I have some work to do. I have about 5 pieces of furniture that are begging for and uplift. Since we are renters I see this as an awesome ways to had some much needed color to bland color that is beige BLAH! So stay tuned for the following project. (hopefully I remember to take pictures!)

Projects

For some reason when I am pregnant I have this desire to do projects. Like I have extra time to do them! Recently I have become obsessed with card making and all that can be done with them, heat embossing, stamping, stickers, fun/cute paper etc. My newest obsession is sewing. Now I have made maybe a handful of sewing project in my 25 years but I hope to make them a regular part of my life! I have a whole list of project I want to complete before little man make his appearance:

1. Apron; I found some different ideas from 50 free Apron Patterns
2. Mei tai carrier; this might be the most complicated project!
3. Curtains
4. Burp clothes

I think I might be a little ambitious but maybe I will get 2 done! Let me know if you would like to tag along with any of these projects.

More Wall Art

I am kind of obsessed with wall art. After my intense nesting I noticed just how bare the walls in my home are. So my quest for easy, fugal ideas began. Several blogs I like have some really neat ideas!

Hear is one, this is a groups of pictures from Ballard Design Catalog and Sarah from the Thrifty Decor Chick made it for much much less

All she used was, MDF board, and scrapbook paper, then nailed them directly to the wall. The Ballard Design cost $200, hers cost $25! So simple and affordable!

I came up with an idea for some art to go over my living room doorway

I bought wood letters that spell FAMILY each letter was $1.49

Then I got a 8 x 24 canvas for $4.99

Lastly whatever colors you want in acrylic paint, Michael's had then $0.77/ea

I will post pictures of the art when I am done,

so far I have painted the letters a Brick red mixed with white pearl.

I plan to paint the canvas a dark brown/bronze color

Affix the letter to the canvas then hang on the all!

Wall Art

I must be nesting, I look at different blogs and go " OH I want to do that!" Today's moment was looking at these wall art ideas. I was thinking my bedroom is blah. Nothing decorative in it at all. The ideas I saw was actually a headboard. Basically wood, covered in batting, then wrapped with a pretty decorative fabric, stapled on the back and using picture hanging systems hung on the wall. I mean SUPER easy. So today I bought half of what I need, fabric and batting

I already have the staple gun, and need to get the picture hanging systems, and wood. I am going to Home Depot or Lowes tomorrow to buy scrap wood to make 4-12" squares and the hanging systems. I wonder just how many of my project I will get to finish. Still have to buy grommet for my No-Sew Curtains. Hopefully David give me till after tomorrow!

Baby Food

So I am very interested in making my own baby food. Where I nannied last, the mom made a lot of her son's food. I have been looking at all the different gadgets that can be used to make food. Though initially I want to say, why in the world would you pay that much for a baby food maker (i.e. Beaba Babycook $149)?

Then I think about just how much it cost to buy baby food. Those little jars are expensive, I know that the number 3 Gerber are close to $0.80/jar. So then I think OK, if I am going to feed my child every meal from a jar, that would be what 2 jars or so a meal, so 6-8 jars a day. That would be about $6/day, $45/week, $180/month ( if we are feeding w/#3 jars) . So, I KNOW I can't afford that. So maybe buying a machine that does all that the Beaba Babycook does isn't so bad. Now to be sure there are cheaper machines, or you can use your own steamer and blender. But I have neither. So I would like to know what you veteran mom's did. I know I will have to buy something, but what should it be?

Frugal Home Ideas

I already have the fabric that I need ( I've had is almost a year now!) Just need to get the 2 other pieces to make the curtains. To see how you can make No-Sew Curtains or click the word. Also here is how to make them with pre-spaced grommets on poly-tap. I am hoping all this sewing, home decorating, and baby prep will bring on this little boy. Maybe he will decide to come out and see what a wonderful mommy he has to make his home and world more enjoyable to look at! Not sure why being pregnant, less than 2 weeks less pregnant, has sparked the desire to do these things that I intended to do months and months ago. Oh well it will be done and when people come to visit us I will like my living room so much better!

DIY Nursing Cover

So I really want one of those nursing covers. However I am a little tight on the budget, (amazing how much money a baby suck away before they make their appearance!) So my mom and I were looking for tutorials that show you how to make one, that has the boning in it so you can see the baby nursing. If you are interested in making one here is one of the sites we found called made by the mama monster. My mom, sis and I are on our way to Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabric to get the supplies. I will post pictures and let you know how it goes. One lady said she spent $10 to make 2! Those covers start at $32 and go up! So I am a little excited about my project:)

Ok so I made my nursing cover and am very VERY proud of myself! Thanks to some help from my mom, this cover cost me a whooping $8!!!!
